Announcement
(outdated announcement is subjected to be
removed)
- Grades have been
officially posted ;)
- I have posted
your final records. Go to the
grades
section to check your grades. Let me know if you have any question and do it
soon before this weekend. Your scores will appear on MyUB and UBLearns
approximately on Friday. Congratulations everyone ;). I am glad with
these excellent scores of yours.
- I will return
your graded tests on Monday, in my office from 1PM~4PM. Come pick up
the test and see if you have any question regarding the test score. Once I
post it on my website, at 4PM, the grade will not likely change. Your grade
will appear in MyUB approximately Dec 12.
- Solution for test
Three has been posted.
- Congratulations
to the 24 students who have just got themselves an advanced A grade
(without taking test Three). That is amazing, especially when there are so
many.
- I recommend
students to download the review of test Three, I guarantee it benefits you a
lot. I've also decided to reduce the number of questions to 4 problems and 1
extra credit problem.
-
Solution for test Two has been posted.
Compare to your answer and prepare for test Three.
- Students, wish
you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!
- Review is
available for test Three. Practice homework last set is also available for
downloading and practicing. Also remember to pick up graded test Two on the
Monday.
- It has also been
announced that UBCATS is available at
http://ubcats.cas.buffalo.edu/
. Your input will be very important for me. Thanks!
- There will be no
class on Wednesday Nov19 and Thursday Nov20. This was decided by students
through a poll on the previous class, resulted in staying late on that day
to cover one more topic of chapter 7.
- Regarding the
cheating/copying homework issue (the obvious and unbearable ones), I will
have a consultation with Prof. Undergraduate Director next week. Even I dont
want to, but if I need to apply the hash policies, be aware that some
records will be deducted. Unless you can explain to me the situation,
this will affect all the students who got involved (the copier and the
original writer). Read my syllabus if you are unsure about how I deal
with cheating problem.
- Grades have been
updated. You should be able to see your group name in the column for test
Two. Use this name to fill in the group codename in the test.
- I want all
students to pick up their graded test Two's on Dec 01/02 class.
- Homework 4 will
be returned on Wednesday/Thursday.
- Test 2 is now
available. Let me know if you have any question regarding the test questions.
- Grades have been
updated.
- Homework 4 has
been posted.
- lecture note 6,
7, 8, 9 have been posted.
- Homework 3 is
available, together with reading assignment 2. The homework is shorter this
time and the reading is fun :)
- Lecture note 5 has been posted
- Homework 2 and
Reading Assignment 1 have been posted. I have delayed the due date till 1st
class of week 8.
- I've updated the
grades of test One. Top 10 students in each class are highlighted in cyan.
I will post homework and reading assignment over this weekend.
- I want ALL
STUDENTS to go to class next week (Wednesday and Thursday) and pick up your
test. I wrote feedback for each student and I want you read and learn so
that you will do
much better or hopefully, perfect next time. Failing to pick up the test
might cause you trouble under UB attendance policy. Overall, I am glad with
this result of the first test. I still want EVERYONE to be able to get a
very high score in this course.
- Good job on
the test One. Solutions have been posted for both classes.
- Homework 1 has been graded.
- Practice set 4 is available to
download.
- Exam review has been posted.
- Lecture note 4 is available.
- Homework 1 out and will be due on
the 2nd class of week that follows.
- Students, disregard the
information on UBlearn and MyUB about final exam schedules. There is no
final exam in this course.
- Sept4th: section T5A. Was a very
exciting class, but I was busy answering questions and couldn't get the
names of some students I wanted to award bonus credits. Talk to me in class
next Tuesday.
- Starting next week (Sept 8th), the Math Help
Center in 107 Math Building will be open and free for all students, from
9:00AM till 4:00PM every weekday. I don't work there, only some teaching
assistants/graduate students do, but they will be of great help if you cant
find me in my office. Visit that place if you have trouble doing
homework/exercises.
- Lecture note and practice for week 2
are available for download
- Grade list got updated. Some students' first assignments are still missing. Late
due is BAD.
- Practice homework 1 is out.
- Semester starts this week of August
25th 2008
- Homework0 has been posted, due on Friday.
- Let me know if the page does not appear properly in your web browser.

Be advised that I will only post a
brief note of the lecture content, that is, the most important topics. This is
to help students keep track of what are being taught in class. Examples,
explanation, problem solving strategies, ... will be presented in class.

Three solution |

I will post homework under this section,
most likely all will be in pdf files.
Some problems are from text book, some
are not. For those taken from textbook, I retype the problem (i.e., you don't
need to look up in the book), change it if necessary (make it easier to
understand or suit the course better), give hint (if problem is hard) and put a
reference number/page before each.
Occasionally , I will post some practice problems which will not be collected,
these will be titled practice. It is highly recommended that you
are able to do as many of them as possible, especially BEFORE each test.
Solutions are also provided, but very briefly, only to help students check up on
their work. Should you have any trouble solving some of them, come to my office
hours.
