The Internet version, AMUCHMA Online, of the newsletter opened in May 1998 on the web site Mathematicians of the African Diaspora.

1997
AMUCME published the first issue of its newsletter.

1995
At the Fourth Pan-African Congress of Mathematicians (September 1995, Ifrane, Morocco), Dr. Ahmed Kerkour - President of the Moroccan Mathematical Society and President of the Al Akhawayn University - was elected President of the AMU. His e-mail address is: A.Kerkour@AlAkhawayn.ma
In 1995, the African Mathematical Union Mathematical Sciences Network was created at the 4th Pan-African Congress of Mathematicians.
South Africa joins the AMU.

1991

Aderemi Kuku is reelected president at the third Pan-African Congress of Mathematicians (1991 Nairobi, Kenya).

1986
Four commissions were created by the Executive Board:
AMUCHMA - the Commission on the History of Mathematics in Africa; On June 27, 1985 the newsletter of AMUCHMA published its first issue;
AMUCWMA - the Commission on Women in Mathematics in Africa;
AMUCME - the Commission Mathematics Education;
AMUCMO - the Commission on Mathematics Olympiad.

The second President was Dr. Aderemi Kuku (1986-1995), elected at the second Pan-African Congress of Mathematicians (April 1986, Jos, Nigeria)

1978
the AMU founds the journal Africa Matematika.

1976
The first Pan-African Conference of Mathematicians was held in Rabat, Morocco and sponsorred by King Hassan II. At this event the African Mathematical Union (AMU) was created.

The first president was Dr. Henri Hogbe Nlend (1975-1986).
